Dresses... just in summer???

Valérie Apollon

So why only in summer?

"Dresses, oh yes, I love to wear them, but mostly in the summer... sometimes at Christmas, but that's it".

I often hear this comment from non-converted women... I use the word "converted" because once you get used to the idea of wearing them 12 months a year, wearing dresses becomes a real religion, a practice that is difficult to do without.

When I ask them "Oh, really? And why only in the summer?" Here are the reasons I hear most often...

"I can't stand wearing pantyhose or tights"

I must admit that this is a good point. For a long time, I myself considered them to be torture items that made me feel like I was tied up like a sausage, not to mention the pantyhose that always ended up coming down and forming an uncomfortable elastic band between my thighs... until I realized that I was simply not wearing the right size. One size up and those irritants were gone.

I also found that they were often and too easily torn: what could be more unsightly than a long mesh in the middle of the leg... Since then, I opted for the black opaque tights, much more resistant, more versatile and above all warmer. I could also have chosen a multitude of tights of different thicknesses, colors or patterns that would have done the job very well. Finally, the less chilly ones always have the option to wear the dresses bare-legged... with beautiful pumps, summer or winter, it always does the trick.

"Apart from sandals, I never know what shoes to wear with a dress"... Yes, indeed this remark holds for the floral or patterned dresses that we like to wear in summer.

But for the others, those made of a thicker fabric? Whether it's with running shoes on the weekend, high boots, ankle boots or compressed heels to go to work, heels to go out to dinner, the choice is multiple.

For me, wearing dresses is part of my daily life: going shopping, on the soccer field, telecommuting, at the office or at the restaurant... this garment is my best ally. Indeed, it is the only one that once I put it on, I forget about it and focus on the really important things I have to do. There are no pieces to think about, the feeling of comfort all day long, the entrejambes that breathes, and above all, a perpetual feeling of assumed femininity.

Diana Vreeland, American journalist and fashion editor, said: "It's not the dress you wear that counts, but the life you lead while wearing it".

Nothing to add, this sentence says it all.

Why don't you try it?
